Arizona’s Impaired Driving Laws


The State of Arizona has fairly strict laws regarding DUI. All drivers under the age of 21 must not have any alcohol in their blood.  Other drivers must not have a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) over 0.08. Commercial drivers are restricted to 0.04 at which they may face charges.

The penalties for the first drunk driving conviction in Arizona:

DUI Base Fine: 250.00

Arizona DUI Surcharge: 200.00

Probation Surcharge: 10.00

Prison Construction Assessment: 500.00

Arizona Extra DUI Assessment: 500.00

Jail: Minimum 24 Hours, up to 10 days.

License Suspension: 90 to 360 days.

Ignition Interlock Device: Court might order that one be used when license is reinstated, at the expense of the convicted person.

In Arizona, there is an additional possibility of an “Extreme DUI” charge if the driver blows 0.15 or more, within 2 hours of driving.  If convicted, for the first offense the fines are higher than a “regular” DUI, and your driver’s license is suspended for one year. As well, you will be required to install an ignition interlock device in your vehicle after the license has been reinstated.

After a conviction, Arizona drivers must be obtain State of Arizona SR22 Insurance.
